National Health Center Week, August 8-14

Health Centers across Michigan and throughout the entire United States will celebrate Community Health Center week with a variety of activities and celebrations to increase awareness of what Federally Qualified Health Centers offer their communities.

Federally Qualified Health Centers are community-based health care providers that receive funds from the HRSA Health Center Program to provide primary care services in underserved areas. They must meet a stringent set of requirements, including providing care on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay and operating under a governing board that includes patients. The defining legislation for Federally Qualified Health Centers (under the Consolidated Health Center Program) is Section 1905(l)(2)(B) of the Social Security Act.

The nationwide network of more than 1,400 health centers spread across 50 states and all U.S. territories provides care for 28 million people in 11,000 communities.

Michigan has 43 Community Health Centers which offer services in 350 locations.

Locally, the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network (CFCN) operates 3 health center sites in Cass and Berrien Counties; Cassopolis Family Clinic, Niles Community Health Center, and Niles Community Health Center Dental.

In 2020, despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, CFCN provided 47,448 patient visits for 12,107 people.  Cass and Niles dental sites were most impacted. Both medical and dental providers adapted to a combination of telehealth and in-person visits.  We never closed.

CFCN offers an integrated model of care; family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, behavioral health, oral health, pharmacy and support services to help people with the social determinants of health. Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks.

As we celebrate Community Health Center week, I would like to personally acknowledge the leadership of the CFCN Board of Directors, the courage and commitment of our dedicated clinical and support staff, as well as management and leadership, for their unwavering dedication to taking care of our patients.

This is Our Family. Taking Care of Yours.
