Cass Clinic Adds New Nurse Practitioner

Cassopolis, MI, May 11, 2015– Anna Matulewicz, a certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, has joined the medical staff of the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network (CFCN).

Matulewicz, a Cassopolis native, received her bachelor’s of science degree in Human Biology from Michigan State University before deciding a career in nursing was where she was meant to be. “I have always been interested in science and started in the medical field working in a laboratory. I quickly realized that I wanted a career that allowed me to interact with people in addition to using science/medical knowledge. This prompted me to return to school to become a nurse so I could use my knowledge to help people on a daily basis,” said Matulewicz. She then went on to earn an associate’s degree in Nursing from Lansing Community College, a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and her masters of science in Nursing with a focus in Adult-Gerontology from the University of Michigan – Flint. She completed her Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2013. Prior to her employment at Cassopolis Family Clinic Network, Matulewicz practiced at Bronson Internal Medicine Hospitalists in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Matulewicz began her career at Cassopolis Family Clinic (CFC) on May 11th. “Growing up in Cassopolis, I feel that I am familiar with the people and community served by CFCN. My knowledge and experience will help in achieving the goal of providing accessible affordable quality healthcare to the members of this community. I also hope that I can be an example, that even if you are from a small town, such as Cassopolis, you can do great things,” said Matulewicz of her new career at CFC. Cassopolis Family Clinic is located at 261 M-62 North, Cassopolis and offers primary care, dental, behavioral health, Medicaid/healthcare enrollment, and pharmacy services. CFC is open Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. For more information or to schedule an appointment please call (269) 445-3874.

Community Health Center Celebrates Impact of School Based Health Center

Ranger Wellness CenterCommunity Health Center Celebrates Impact of School Based Health Center
Cassopolis, MI, March 3, 2015 – As part of the 2015 National School-Based Health Center Awareness Month, last month the Ranger Wellness Center at the Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School celebrated the positive difference it is making in the lives of children, by providing primary care, dental and behavioral health care to hundreds of students.

Serving Cassopolis area students, Ranger Wellness Center (RWC) is part of the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network (CFCN). RWC was made possible with a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) capital development grant of $340,925 in 2013, and a $57,000 startup grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) awarded in 2014 that helped launch the five-month-old center. The HRSA contribution was part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Grant for School-Based Health Centers Capital Program. The grant given by BCBSM is part of the organization’s effort to strengthen health services in rural and under-served Michigan communities.

“Our dedicated staff at the Ranger Wellness Center is really excited to help Cassopolis students get the care they need to stay healthy, learn and succeed,” said Mary Geegan Middleton, Chief Executive Officer of CFCN. “We’re here to promote health and wellness. Thanks to the generous grants from BCBSM and HRSA, we’re improving health outcomes for hundreds of young people in our community.”

RWC began operations at the start of the 2014-2015 school year and is already seeing more than 250 new patients. RWC is working with the school and community partners to encourage healthy lifestyles through a wellness program. In addition, RWC provides space to Woodlands Behavioral Health Network to deliver services for autism screening, counseling and substance use prevention.

Around 82 percent of students in Cassopolis Public Schools are eligible for free or reduced-cost school meals. Health factors such as obesity, inactivity and risk-taking are on the rise in the mostly rural and disproportionately poor region, which has a shortage of primary care providers and an extreme shortage of mental health care providers. Around 41 percent of Cass County’s population lives at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

“Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is proud to support Federally Qualified Health Centers throughout Michigan, that are dedicated to helping every single family in their community get the care and treatment they need to be healthy,” said Kim Kratz, BCBSM Senior Health Care Analyst. “Federally Qualified Health Centers provide access to care for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable, uninsured Michiganders and without these health centers, patients will delay and even forego care at great cost to themselves, their families and the health care system. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is excited to partner with Ranger Wellness Clinic and the Cassopolis community to build a healthier Michigan together.”

Cassopolis, MI, January 12, 2015 – Cassopolis Family Clinic (CFC), a practice of Cassopolis Family Clinic Network (CFCN), is excited to announce the opening of its on-site pharmacy at 261 M-62 North, Cassopolis. The pharmacy, open Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., is staffed by pharmacist James Van Hulle, RPh. Van Hulle received his degree in Pharmacy from Purdue University and has 35 years of experience in retail pharmacy, most recently as managing pharmacist for a local retail pharmacy.

“The best part about being a Pharmacist for a Community Health Center is the ability to work hand-in-hand with the providers on-site to ensure we are doing everything possible to provide the best overall care for each patient. I have had the honor of creating trusting relationships with many of the residents of Cassopolis over the past 19 years and look forward to serving them for many years to come at Cassopolis Family Clinic,” Van Hulle said of his transition to the Community Health Center.

CFC currently offers primary care, behavioral health and dental services. The addition of pharmacy is aligned with its integrated patient-centered medical home designation. Patients now have the convenience of filling their prescription in the same place they receive care. Having an on-site pharmacy is also expected to decrease waiting time, promote direct communication between the provider and the pharmacist, and improve patient safety by having a consulting pharmacist on staff. The pharmacy is part of the 340B program. Most commercial insurances, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted and a Sliding Fee Discount is available for those who qualify.

For more information regarding the pharmacy please call (269) 228-8505.
