Cassopolis, MI, June 10, 2016 – Cassopolis Family Clinic Network is now offering CenteringPregnancy® prenatal care as an option for expectant moms. The model of care, if the patient choses to participate, replaces routine individual visits with group visits of 8 to 10 pregnant women who are due about the same time.
The first group of expectant moms began meeting last week at the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network’s Obstetrics and Gynecology office in Niles. New groups will be formed every 6 to 8 weeks for women who have completed their first trimester.
Centering group prenatal care follows the recommended schedule of 10 prenatal visits, but each visit is 90 minutes to 2 hours long giving women 10x more time with their provider. During their visit, moms have a one-on-one assessment with the provider and plenty of time for group sharing and discussions. Patients participate in their own care and have time with their provider to discuss important information.
Patients receive all the components of prenatal care, including health assessment, interactive learning and community building/support. In the group sessions there is a facilitated discussion of pregnancy, birth and newborn care as well as discussion of overall health, stress management and more.
Centering is a group health care model that is changing how women and care providers feel about the patient care experience. It is proven to dramatically improve health outcomes, reducing the odds of premature birth between 33 and 47 percent across studies, and lowering health care costs.
