97.5 Y Country Medical Minute – Summer Healthy Kids

Summer can be an extremely busy time of year and our family schedules can often get off track. This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses tips on how to keep your children healthy and on a schedule during summer break.

Start the day out right!
Breakfast is the most important meal of the entire day. Make sure to prepare a nutritious breakfast rich in fruits, healthy proteins and healthy carbs. For example: Fresh blueberries, scrambled eggs, a small bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk or water.

Stay Hydrated
It’s easy to sip on sports drinks, juice and sodas in the summer. Try to replace those drinks with water. You can even make it fun and tasty by adding fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries, lemon, and lime.

Don’t Forget to Brush!
Be sure your child is brushing their teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time. A reminder to see your dentist every 6 months.

ZZZZZZ
It’s really important to get plenty of rest. The summer heat can be exhausting, so be sure to take breaks from the heat and get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night.

Stay Active
Whether it’s swimming, playing yard games, riding a bike, or taking a walk, make sure your child is getting at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity.

Schedule your Childs School/Sports Physical
The 2018-2019 School year will be here before we know it so be sure to get your child’s school or sports physical scheduled today!
