97.5 Y-Country Medical Minute - Have a Happy Thanksgiving With Diabetes
Thanksgiving is a time for family to gather, share a meal and celebrate life’s many blessings. The traditional carb and sugar-filled Thanksgiving meal is not always diabetes friendly. This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses how to have a Happy Thanksgiving with diabetes.
The traditional Thanksgiving meal often includes carb and sugar-filled items such as potatoes, cranberry sauce, and lots of desserts. Plan what you are going to eat ahead of time. When making your plate, be sure to watch your portions carefully. Just because there are several desserts available to choose from, doesn’t mean you have to try them all. Remember portion control for desserts.
Bring a Dish
If you are not hosting Thanksgiving in your home, offer to bring a dish that you can enjoy such as non-starch vegetables for example salad, carrots, or green beans. If you are worried about options available, you can always bring you own meal to ensure you stay on track.
