97.5 Y Country Medical Minute – Ease Back into School

Vacations, beach days, bonfires, and friend sleepovers provide a great summer getaway from a student’s normal school year schedule. While we are still two weeks from the official end of summer break for students in southwest Michigan, it is a great time to start preparing your child for their upcoming school year. This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses tips on how to prepare your child for their first week of school of the 2019-2020 school year.

Sleep

Consider slowly moving your child’s bedtime back to a normal school night bedtime and setting the alarm earlier each day. This will help your child ease into their new schedule.

Routine

Rather than lounging around watching movies and playing video games, create good habits that will help school mornings run a bit smoother. Have your child set out the clothes they wish to wear the night before, make their bed in the morning, and eat a healthy breakfast.

Study Zone

Prepare for another school year by organizing a study zone where your child can do their homework or read. Be sure to find a comfy chair and good lighting. Have your child help decorate their space.

Nutrition

Summer can easily throw off your mealtime schedule and good nutrition habits. Start easing back into the routine by offering healthy options for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
