97.5 Y-Country Medical Minute – Drinking Water Can be Fun
Whether you are trying to lose weight or live a healthy life, we constantly hear those four words, ‘ Drink Plenty Of Water’. Water can seem boring, but it doesn’t have to be. This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses the importance of drinking enough water and how to make it fun.
How much and Why?
Water helps regulate body temperature, flushes body waste, helps maintain healthy blood pressure, helps with weight loss, boosts performance during exercise, and much more.
According to the Mayo Clinic, adults should drink half their weight in oz. For example, if you weigh 180 lbs., you should drink 90 oz or 11 (8oz) glasses of water a day.
Water Doesn’t Have to Be Boring
Drinking water can get boring or flavorless after a while. Here are some suggestions to make drinking water fun and delicious.
- Slice up some fresh fruits and vegetables to place in your water to add flavor. For example cucumbers, apples, and lemons, limes, raspberries, etc.
- Need more water in your diet? Try eating soup that is primarily water or water-based such as broth. Low sodium chicken noodle soup is a great option.
- Drink Tea. Whether you enjoy green, white, or black tea, there is a tea for everyone. With the choice to drink tea hot or cold, this option rarely gets boring.
- Spice it up! In a pot, simmer a cinnamon stick in 8oz of water. Once fully flavored and cooled, pour over a glass of ice for a delicious treat.
