97.5 Y-Country Medical Minute – Navigating Healthcare Coverage

Aired: 12/2/2019

Navigating the complicated landscape of healthcare can be extremely intimidating.   Some of the most frequent asked questions include: What type of healthcare coverage does my family need?, What type of coverage do I qualify for?, What healthcare providers accept my healthcare coverage plan?, I don’t have insurance, where do I go for assistance?.  This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses tips on how to ensure you and your family are covered in 2020.

Healthcare Enrollment Assistance

Figuring out what type of healthcare coverage you qualify for can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be.   Cassopolis Family Clinic Network has Community Health Workers (CHW) on staff to help patients who are uninsured or underinsured enroll in Michigan Medicaid Healthcare Plans, Sliding Fee Discount Program, or health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.   Healthcare enrollment assistance is free, however, patients needing assistance must meet with a CHW prior to their appointment.

2020 Open Enrollment

The 2020 Open Enrollment Period for the Affordable Care Act Marketplace plans runs from Friday, November 1, 2019 to Sunday, December 15, 2019.   For assistance enrolling in a Marketplace plan, be sure to schedule an appointment with a CHW as soon as possible.   If you do not act by December 15th, you can’t get 2020 coverage through the Marketplace unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

Does My Provider Accept My Insurance

When enrolling for a healthcare plan, be sure to speak with our CHWs to ensure the plan is accepted by your provider of choice.  If you already have health coverage, you can call your insurance provider to ensure your doctor is in your network and accepts your insurance.
