97.5 Y Country Medical Minute – Can You Hear Me Now?

Summer is a great time to head out to the race track, county fairs, fireworks, and concerts with friends and family. While these events create long-lasting memories, they can also damage your hearing. This week’s Y-Country Medical Minute quickly discusses the importance of protecting your hearing from loud noises.

Hearing Loss From Loud Noises
Hearing loss can result from a single loud sound such as a loud boom from a firework or gunshot when you are too close to the sound or even repeated exposure to loud sounds.

How To Protect Your Hearing
The best way to protect your hearing is to avoid noisy activities when able.  When you can’t avoid loud noise, use hearing protection. Hearing protection devices reduce the level of sound entering your ear.

Choose the Right Hearing Protection

Insert – Type Earplugs
These devices provide an air-tight seal in the ear canal. They are generally cheap, effective, and easy to use.

Ear Muffs
Earmuffs, when fitted and worn properly, block out noise by completely covering the outer ear. This is a great option for children.
